New Sven Set thoughts

Post by jfborek on Sun Nov 16, 2014 10:25 am

The new Sven set looks good.

Other thoughts:

I have noticed the shorter program opening which has been in effect for some time.

and then opening studio segment (yesterday) with the rubber chicken in the bubbling tube was amusing.

There have comments on the Sven web-site (572 with other topics and conversation) I thought if I draw some response.

(yes, Sven does a shower intro when he has a full schedule of Sven extras like on the road
stuff he wants to show.)

I want to see more of it! So far, it looks promising. Possibly needs more "stuff" (posters, toys, etc) but that will come, it always takes a while to decorate a new place. The rubber chicken bubbler thingy was funny, as was the "cornometer". There is also a large pipe along the wall; I seem to remember one like this in Soupy Sale's set, possibly with a leak. In any case, I'm sure Sven is happy to finally have indoor plumbing Wink . Someone in another forum mentioned Sven's chair as his "throne", would like to have a better look at this. Actually, I would have thought a recliner or old movie theater seat would have worked well, too. I am very happy to finally see a real door! That green screen just didn't quite make it.

Someone in another forum mentioned that the gargoyle on the right resembles Boris Karloff, and the one on the left Vincent Price. Yeah, could be... with the horns being turned up and turned down, could also be the traditional comedy and tragedy masks, echoing the bats on the new coffin. I wonder if these guys are also going to have speaking parts?

Uh, I think he does a shorter intro, not a shower intro. Twisted Evil Svengoolie might be good clean fun, but I do not think I want to see that. EWWW!

I immediately thought the right gargoyle looks like Karloff - with an odd expression on his face! I'll have to take a closer look at the other one.

Now that I look at it more closely, that is certainly a nod to Vincent Price. The whole set looks fantastic!

I love the "steampunky" flavor of the new set. Like how the main portion of the mad scientist thingy is an old Zenith round screen console TV- I remember one in our family, it wasn't replaced until I was in first/second grade, when the picture tube finally gave up.  The gizmo on top looks like an old mantle clock. The rounded metal whatchamacallit to me resembles the warming oven in my grandparent's diner, circa 1940s. The thing on top of that looks like part of an old store scale.

I hope Sven is eventually going to figure out what these things are called and let us know so we can stop calling them thingys, whatchamacallits, gizmos, whozits, etc. Laughing

I'm enjoying the new set as well - very happy to see the nod to Vincent and Boris, very classy.
