The new coffin skull has a name!
Last weeks showing of The Thing That Couldn't Die had a skit where Sven and his skull friend on his coffin interviewed the head in the box... a couple of times I was certain Sven addressed the skull character by name but I couldn't make it out as he was somewhat turned away from the camera when talking to his coffin skull... I posted this as a question to Svengoolie's blog and Facebook page and he answered! Svengoolie says the Skull character on his new coffin is "Boddy Sorrell" which is a play on the name of Buddy Sorrell on CBS's The Dick Van Dyke Show a role played by Morey Amsterdam and if you compare they do favor each other!
So there you have it... Sven's new character is named Boddy Sorrell!

Re: The new coffin skull has a name!
The skull coffin topper is modeled after the same skull that the very FIRST horror host, Vampira, had on her couch when her show ran in 1954 only they added a mustache to make it Zallman T. Tombstone!

The handle in front of the coffin is a nod to the original Svengoolie, Jerry G. Bishop, with a loose Latin form of his famous line, “The Time has come for Scary things…” which comes from
The time has come for scary things
Like vampires, ghosts, and vampire wings
Like horrible movies, all drippy and drooly
And horrible hosts like me, Svengoolie! - Screaming Yellow Theater (1970-1973) with Jerry G. Bishop

Re: The new coffin skull has a name!
I could NOT have dreamed this, so I'm sure that last Saturday was not the first time that Body Sorrell talked and was named. I wish I could remember which movie was showing, but I know that the coffin talked in the Buddy Sorrell voice one time before! I'm a big fan of Buddy Sorrell on the Dick Van Dyke Show, so I recognized the voice immediately.
I like the sentiment on the "door knocker" too. A very nice tribute to Jerry G.

You must be having futuristic premonitions!
This was also posted by Sven in response to some not liking the voice:
Boddy Sorrell- in honor of Morey Amsterdam. To answer the questions-we worked on several voices-and weren’t happy with them- which is why it took a while befoore it talked on the show. After a suggestion from a radio friend, we hit on that voice- and it worked, as far as we’re concerned.

Re: The new coffin skull has a name!
Now that I think about it you may be right... I do recall him moving his eyes before but I think even opened his mouth and uttered a few words just as they went into a commercial break. Will have to see if Dave Fuentes posted it on his YouTube page.

Re: The new coffin skull has a name!
Body Sorrell has talked at least twice before, most recently with Tombstone (the two of them giving Sven some sass). I am trying to remember which movie was being shown, but it was before the recent spate of repeats. I also think he "introduced" himself early in 2014, but then went silent for a while, probably while Rich and company were trying to figure out just what to do with him.
The skull topper may look like Vampira's, but it also has a mustache like Tombstone's. I love the detailing that went into the coffin design, and wonder if there are any other little hidden designs on it?

Re: The new coffin skull has a name!
Body and Tombstone had a dialog (a "meeting of the minds", according to Sven's blog) during the showing of "Island of Terror" on May 10, 2014. This episode also featured the very funny "Petrie's Dishes" parody that probably caused many viewers to avoid chicken noodle soup for a while

Just a little correction to the poem.
